                                                                            Poplar Island

On October 16th, a slightly breezy day, approximately 20 S&T Garden Club members headed out from Seaford to visit Poplar Island.  This excursion involved leaving town at 6:45 a.m. and heading to Tilghman Island, MD, arriving by 8:45 a.m. to board a boat to Poplar Island.  Poplar Island was disappearing into the Chesapeake Bay until the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began restoration in 1998.  The island is the home for several species of birds, migratory birds and other wildlife.  Following the visit to the island the group dined at a local restaurant on Tilghman Island and then headed home.
