EAGLE WATCH 2017 (and more)

**Photos courtesy of Dorothy Mears

This year's trip to Blackwater Wildlife Refuge in Cambridge, MD, took place on Thursday, January 19, 2017, after rescheduling due to weather.  The following pictures show a nesting pair of eagles at the refuge and a pair sitting on an irrigation pipe outside of Laurel, DE.  The straw bails are part of marsh control--they are put on posts to help the marsh develop.  The pdf file was composed by photographer, Dorothy Mears, of birds she finds in her backyard--WOW.

Eagle Watch 2016

Since last year's Eagle Watch was so successful the club again decided to visit Blackwater National

Wildlife Refuge again on February 22, 2016.  After several cancellations, due to weather, a group made it to the Refuge and and found it quite rewarding.  This year in addition to the expected wildlife we were treated to some pelicans.  Unfortunately the Eagles nesting where the Eagle Cam is focused abandoned the nest.  It's possible the Eagles could return to lay more eggs but it is very unlikely.

Eagle Watch 2015

Members of the S&T Garden Club ventured to Cambridge, MD, to visit the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge to observe wildlife.  Tuesday, January 20th, provided a rare day filled with clear skies and lots of sunshine.  As reported by our guide Zeeger deWilde (a S&T Garden Club Member and official wildlife guide at Blackwater) there are more eagles at Blackwater than reported in any recent years.

The club also observed many eagles (some nesting), vultures, a great blue heron, snow geese, tundra swans and a variety of ducks.  The visitors center provided a perfect viewing spot and also provides many specimens of wildlife found at the Refuge.  Following the visit and tour the members enjoyed a lunch at a nearby restaurant.
