Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs Meeting

April 20, 2016 - Heritage Shores Country Club

The Spade & Trowel Garden Club hosted the DFGC meeting at Heritage Shores on April 20, 2016.  Many club members were in attendance and thanks to Biddi Nixon and her team of helpers along with Carol Kinsley, who provided all the beautiful herbs and conifers, we had a successful vendors table.  Conifers were also used to create delightful centerpieces for each table.

The meeting was opened by DFGC president Marty Rushlow, who welcomed the attendees (130) and guests and acknowledged the addition of a new club, Plantations Lakes in Millsboro.

CAR president, Anne Bucher, followed and explained the primary reasons for the NGC wanting to eliminate the CAR.  The primary reason centers around finances and liability.

Our guest speaker was Dr. Richard L. Bitner who presented a slide show entitled "Designing with Conifers."

The highlight of the meeting for our club took place during the presentation of awards.  Mary Noel was honored and awarded National Garden Club Life Membership.  Biddi Nixon, Joanne Whalon and Jim Zeigler were awarded Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs State Life Membership.

The next DFGC meeting will be hosted by the Potpourri G.C. and will be held at Maple Dale Country Club in Dover on June 15th--Deadline to register is June 7th.  This is the annual awards meeting.

The guest speaker for this meeting will be the renowned speaker, Claudia West, who along with Thomas Rainer authored the book, "Planting in a Post-Wild World."  Claudia's topic will be:  "Applying Natural Color Theory to Enhance Design."
