                                Black Hog Farmstead, Lewes, DE

On one of May's rainy days a few of the Spade & Trowel's brave souls ventured to Lewes, DE, to visit the Black Hog Farmstead. This is a working farm, bed and breakfast and a destination for farm to table products and food.  If your lucky enough you might make a reservation to join in on one of their Sunday meals served on their lovely porch.

The Farm is located in Sussex County, Delaware, close to the historic coastal town of Lewes. “Black Hog” comes from a local tributary into which their own creek flows, named “Black Hog Gut”. The logo interpretation of the Hog was created by Viva Waite, artist and illustrator, and daughter of the owners.

The property is 4.19 acres consisting of farmhouse, barn, ornamental and cutting gardens, flat areas and wooded wetlands. They till about 0.75 acres for vegetables, have 0.25 acres raised beds, 0.25 acres propagated specialty shrubs in various stages of growth, and have 0.5 acres of blueberries and blackberries. The remaining pasture is presently divided into paddocks and open area for ducks and future animals – not hogs!
