General Meeting: Tuesday, Sept. 12, Woodruff Room, Seaford Public Library. Flower Show entries due by 1 p.m. Social Time 1:00

p.m. Meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. Hostesses: Susan Seltzer, Mary Noel and Carol Kinsley.

Program: “How to Dry Flowers” (in preparation for decorating Christmas tree at Ross Mansion). Program will include a 12-minute video and a presentation by Carol Owens, who has been a club member since 2013.

Monthly Flower Show

Design: “Welcome Back” - A Feaured Plant Material Design with an emphasis on one plant species. See Pg. 9 guidelines and HB pg. 74.

Horticulture

Any cut specimen, maximum length 30” or any container plant, container not to exceed 12” inside diameter. See guidelines Page 9.

Photography

None this month, but plan to enter fall photos in November.

October

General Meeting: Tuesday, Oct. 10, Woodruff Room, Seaford Public Library. Flower Show entries due 1 p.m. Social Time 1:00

p.m. Meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. Host/Hostesses: Teresa Blades, Jim Zeigler and Carol Johnson.

Program: “Garden Smart Garden Easy” - Susan Trone, Sussex County Master Gardener, will present an award-winning program with hints and tools to make gardening easier as we age or encounter physical challenges. Trone has been a Master Gardener since 2009.

Monthly Flower Show

Design: “Show Your Fall, Y’all”- A Hanging Design of a traditional or creative wreath. See Pg. 9 guidelines and HB Pg. 93.

Horticulture

Any cut specimen, maximum length 30” or any container plant, container not to exceed 12” inside diameter. See guidelines Page 9.

November

Board Meeting: Friday, Nov. 3, 10:15 a.m. Allen Room, Seaford Public Library, 600 North Market St. Ext., Seaford.

General Meeting: Tuesday, Nov. 14, Woodruff Room, Seaford Public Library. Flower Show entries due 1 p.m. Social Time 1:00 p.m. Meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. Hostesses: Norine Donahue and Mary Knauss.

Program: “Wildlife Habitat Is for the Birds” — Dave Savekis, who retired as director of DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife after a career spanning 40 years with the department, will discuss creating wildlife habitat in our own backyards and whether or not to feed the birds.

Monthly Flower Show

Design: “What’s Your Line?”- A Creative Line Design where line is dominant with a minimum of plant material and other optional components. See Pg. 9 guidelines and HB Pg. 74.

Horticulture: “Name that Plant” - For something different this month, several specimens brought in by members will be used to challenge members’ knowledge of plant names, whether common name or botanical. No cell phone apps permissible!

Photography

Classes are 1) Birds and 2) Pollinators. Members may enter one or both classes following guidelines on Pg. 9.

December

No Board or General Meeting this month. All members are asked to help with the Greens Sale. Details are on Page 13 of Handbook.

The annual Holiday Party is being planned for Dec. 12. Details will be announced when determined. In lieu of a gift exchange, please bring non-perishable food items to be taken to a local food bank

January

Program: “Propagating Woody Stems” — Sussex County Master this month. Take photos for March. Check ahead to see the three classes for entries.Gardener Penny Huth will discuss how to propage new shrubs using cuttings. Before moving to Delaware in 2019, Huth was a Master Gardener in Maryland, where she owned a nursery. She curently works at East Coast Nursery in Millsboro.

Monthly Flower Show

Design: “New Year New Challenges” – A Pot-et-fleur Design with an emphasis on a combination of two (2) or more flowering and/or foliage plants with roots growing in soil or other medium. See Pg. 9 guidelines and HB Pg. 94.

Horticulture

Any cut specimen, maximum length 30” staged in a clean, clear container. See guidelines Page 9.

February

General Meeting: Tuesday, Feb. 13, Woodruff Room, Seaford Public Library. Flower Show entries due 1:00 p.m. Social Time 1:00 p.m. Meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. Hostesses: Nancy McAdams — other volunteers needed.

Program: “Flower Pot Art” - Chris Rushing will conduct a hands-on workshop on decorating/embellishing flower pots. Rushing is owner of Thrifty Creations, a unique thrift shop in Laurel filled with eclectic finds and furniture handpainted by the owner in the boho style. A self- taught artist, she does all sorts of painting from wall murals to custom- made signs. Materials will be provided.

Design: “Make a Splash” – An Underwater Design is a Creative Design having some or all plant material and other optional component(s) submerged in water. See Pg. 9 guidelines and HB Pg. 79.

p.m. Meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. Hostesses: Betty Jean Johnson, Sandi Dew, Pamela Gallamore.

Program: “Garden Photography 101” - Paula Shannon, award- winning local photographer and one of the judges of photography at our last flower show, will present tips for garden shots and flower photography. Shannon’s love and passion for capturing images, even without a camera, dates back to childhood, when she battled severe scoliosis at the Old Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia. She purchased her first professional camera for a trip to France in 1985. Her mother encouraged her to photograph favorite places, but she also enjoys “capturing” people. Her advice: Get out and take a picture of things every day.

Design: “Here’s Looking Back at You” – A Reflective Design is a Creative Design containing reflective materials giving back images of light to the viewer. See Pg. 9 guidelines and HB Pg. 75.

Horticulture

Photography: “Winter’s Beauty” - Any photograph in one of the following classes: 1) Close Up. 2) Black & White. 3) Garden scene. Members may enter one or more classes following guidelines on Pg. 9

April

General Meeting: Tuesday, April 9, Woodruff Room, Seaford Public Library. Flower Show entries due 1:00 p.m. Social Time 1:00 p.m. Meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. Hostesses: Betty Grossmann, Dotty Mears and Sandy Blackwell.

Program: “Black Gold” - Club president and Master Gardener Carol Kinsley has been composting for more than 65 years. She will share components of a healthy compost pile and describe how to set up a variety of structures to contain your compost. Your reward: black gold!

Design: “Cascade into Spring” – A Cascade Design with an emphasis on a downward rhythmic movement. See Pg. 9 guidelines and HB Pg. 73.

Horticulture

Program: “10 Minute Challenge” - Bring a container, form or structure you don’t mind giving away and flowers and greenery from your garden to share. Challenge for all who wish to participate will be to assemble — in just 10 minutes — a design or arrangement to give away. No prizes. This is just for fun!

Photography:   “Spring Is Here” - Any photograph celebrating the arrival of spring depicting 1) a single flower or 2) a flowering tree or shrub. Follow guidelines on Pg. 9 of HB.
