The Spade & Trowel Garden Club's

                       60th Anniversary Celebration

                                                June 5, 2018

On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, the Spade & Trowel Garden Club, Inc., celebrated its 60th year as a member club in the National Garden Clubs, Inc.  It was a perfect highlight to National Garden Week.

The event was held at the Nanticoke River Yacht Club on the banks of the Nanticoke River which flows through Seaford.  In attendance were most of the club's current 50 active members, 5 associate members and 4 honorary members and their guests.  In addition, there were several other guests in attendance including the mayor of Seaford, David Genshaw and his wife and state representative, Danny Short.

Mayor Genshaw presented the club with a "Proclamation" from the city which he read before passing it onto the club president, Carol Johnson.  Representative Short, presented a "Tribute" from the state house of representatives to the club as well.  Both the proclamation and tribute honored the club for its many projects and faithfulness to the beautification of the city and state.  Each highlighted the club's motto: "Enriching our lives by sharing our love for the art of gardening with our community".

The 2-hour affair was an absolute success.  There were lovely centerpieces created by a committee of club members and a delicious buffet of food catered by Lisa Wile, daughter of one of the club members, who also made the tasty and beautiful cake (only crumbs remained).
